Hyundai Motor Group Places 4th

The global electric vehicle sales volume increased 44.6 percent to 2,943,172 units last year.

The Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association announced on March 11 that the global electric vehicle sales volume increased 44.6 percent to 2,943,172 last year.

Specifically, a total of 2,025,371 BEVs were sold last year along with 909,519 PHEVs and 8,282 FCEVs. The sales volumes increased 34.7 percent, 73.6 percent and 9.3 percent, respectively. The ratio of newly registered EVs to newly registered vehicles rose from 2.2 percent to 3.6 percent.

Tesla sold 442,334 cars to top the market for the second consecutive year. Volkswagen Group sold 381,406, up 211.1 percent from a year ago, to rise to second. GM came in third with a sales volume of 221,116, up 134.1 percent from a year earlier.

Hyundai Motor Group rose from seventh to fourth by increasing its volume by 59.9 percent to 198,487. The others in the top 10 are Renault-Nissan, BYD, BMW, Daimler, Geely and PSA.
