Verizon of the United States, Orange of France and Chunghwa Telecom of Taiwan have joined the XR Alliance led by LG Uplus,

The Expanded Reality (XR) Alliance, a 5G content alliance forged with LG Uplus at the center, has attracted powerful new partners.

LG Uplus announced on March 10 that Verizon, the biggest mobile carrier in the United States, has joined the alliance, together with France's No. 1 mobile carrier Orange and Taiwan's leading mobile carrier Chunghwa Telecom. LG Uplus chairs the alliance, which was launched in September 2020.

The number of member companies has increased to 10 in seven regions. They include Qualcomm, Bell Canada, China Telecom, KDDI, Felix & Paul Studio, and Atlas Five.

The alliance is currently working on the second project. It will select appropriate content from among famous performances, fairy tales, and animations and carry out the project through meetings of its members.

The XR Alliance will release Episode 2 of the first project set against the International Space Station (ISS) as early as March. Episodes 3 and 4 will also be filmed and released by the end of 2021to give immersive views of the actual space outside the space station.

The AR and VR technology markets will grow 23.3 percent annually to US$7.76 billion by 2026, forecast Research & Market, a British market research company.
