A Ruling against Samsung Electronics

A jury in a U.S. district court has found that Samsung Display, Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics America infringed patents of Solas OLED, an Irish patent monetization company.

A U.S. jury has handed out a verdict against Samsung Display, Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics America in a patent infringement suit filed by Solas OLED, an Irish company specializing in patented OLED technologies.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has found that the three Samsung companies infringed two Solas patents which are related to OLED displays and used for Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Note smartphones.

The jury awarded Solas $62,738,543 in damages for infringement of the two patents.

Solas also has cases pending against Samsung before the International Trade Commission and against Samsung Electronics GmbH in the Düsseldorf District Court in Germany.

Solas OLED is a subsidiary of Atlantic IP Services, a Dublin-based company specializing in patent monetization. In February, Sonrai Memory, another subsidiary of Atlantic IP Services, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics America with the Western District Court of Texas, claiming that its two patents on multiprocessor chips with multiple operating systems have been violated.
