LG Display has completed and started producing from its first overseas LCD panel manufacturing facility. The industry cluster covering the production of panels, modules, and finished goods is expected to add speed to its global market penetration.

The plant manufactures 8.5-generation ultra-HD and full-HD panels ranging in size from 42 to 55 inches. LG Display’s module factory, which was completed in 2007, and partner firms are located nearby. Ten partner companies joined LG Display when the module factory was set up. At this time, the six firms, including ENF Technology and Daeseong Gas, entered the region with the display panel manufacturer, and the number is slated to increase. Skyworth, the second-largest TV set manufacturer in China and one of the major clients of LG Display, is across the street, too.

The site area and the total floor area of the new plant are 330,000 m2 and 120,000 m2, respectively. Combined with the module plant, dorm and the partner firms’ sites, the total area reaches 2,000,000 m2. The construction began in May 2012.

Local organizations and companies made a joint investment in the plant. Specifically, LG Display, the Guangzhou Development District and Skyworth invested US$4 billion at a ratio of 7:2:1. The production capacity is scheduled to be increased from 60,000 to 120,000 sheets a month by the end of 2016.
