Uber Taxi
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport requested the city of Seoul to intensively control uberX on August 29, by insisting that this service is violating the current Passenger Transport Service Act. UberX is a call taxi app that charges customers and provides taxi services with private automobiles.
Uber, a car sharing application, introduced Uber Black, which provides premium vehicles for taxis through contracts with rental cars or limousine companies last August. Uber announced on August 28 that uberX, through which any car owner in Korea can become a taxi driver, will be tested in Korea.
Currently, Uberx is free, since the service is undergoing testing. Uber drivers are required to participate in training in the office of Uber Korea after registration.
The income of Uber taxi drivers varies by individual driver. Some people earn an average of 4 million won per month, and some earn 10 million won. A 10 to 15 percent commission is taken by Uber.
Uber first started the service in Korea in August last year. Currently, 500 drivers are registered with Uber. As the Uber Black service recruited drivers in Korea very quickly last year, it seems just a matter of time before uberX is expanded to a full-fledged service, especially since uberX does not require premium vehicles, which means the “fever for two jobs” is possible.
