Claiming Management Provides Illegal Support to Labor-Management Council

Representatives of Samsung Group’s labor unions hold a press conference in front of the Seoul Employment and Labor Office on Feb. 22.

A delegation of Samsung Group’s labor unions filed a petition with the Ministry of Labor and a complaint with the police on Feb. 22, claiming that Samsung Group is suppressing and disabling the labor unions by illegally supporting the labor-management council.

"Samsung Group provided financial support to members of the labor-management council with company funds, guaranteed position security to laborer members of the council, and intervened in the selection of labor members of the council," said the delegation consisting of representative from the Samsung Electronics Branch and the Samsung Electronics Service Branch in a press conference in front of the Seoul Employment and Labor Office.

"In 2019, while Samsung Electronics' labor and management were conducting collective bargaining negotiations, the management unilaterally sent an official letter to the labor union that they had completed a wage adjustment consultation with the laborer representative of the labor-management council," they added.

In response, Samsung Electronics said that the company has been collecting opinions from executives and employees and improving working conditions through the labor-management council whose members were directly elected by executives and employees according to the law.” It added that the company has faithfully conducted collective bargaining and wage negotiations with the labor union.
