Samsung Electronics regained the top spot in the global LTE mobile phone market. According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung Electronics sold 28.6 million LTE handsets in the second quarter of this year, to account for 32.2 percent of the global market.

Apple, which had taken the foremost place in the first quarter, had to see its product sales volume go down by approximately 4.4 million units to around 28.3 million and its market share falling by 8.6 percentage points to 31.9 percent. LG Electronics retained the third spot with a sell-through of 5.2 million units and market share of 5.9 percent. Only these three companies recorded a market share of at least 5 percent during the same period.

In the meantime, the LTE smart phone market of China is estimated to reach 140 million units in size in 2014, more than six times the size of last year, and keep growing to 230 million in 2015 and 360 million in 2018. This means that 80 percent of the mobile phones sold in China will be LTE handsets.
