To Participate in World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Project

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction plans to invest 100 billion won in wind power projects by 2030.

Chung Yeon-in, president of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said on Feb. 5 that it will invest 100 billion won in wind power projects by 2030 and create 1,000 jobs.

Chung disclosed the plan during an investment agreement signing ceremony held on Feb. 5 for the construction of the world's largest offshore wind power complex in waters off Sinan County, South Jeolla Province. The project will cost a total 48 trillion won.

The project involves building an 8.2GW offshore wind farm in Sinan. The generation capacity is equal to that of six new Korea-type nuclear power plants put together. As of 2020, it is more than seven times the size of Horn Sea (1.12GW), the world's largest offshore wind power complex. It can generate enough power for all households in Seoul and Incheon.

Under the investment agreement, the private sector will invest about 47.6 trillion won and the government about 900 billion won. Private investment will be made by offshore wind power equipment manufacturers such as Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, CS Wind, and Samkang M&T, and private power generators such as KEPCO, SK E&S, and Hanwha Engineering & Construction.
