South Korea’s First Water Supply System Export

A consortium led by Korea Water Resources Corp. has won a water supply project in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Environment announced on Jan. 7 that a consortium led by Korea Water Resources Corp. won the Karian water supply project in Indonesia on Jan. 5.

The 200 billion won project is to supply tap water to Jakarta and the nearby area from the Karian Dam about 50 kilometers away from the capital city. The target supply amount is 400,000 tons a day, which can be used by approximately two million people.

The project was proposed at the summit talks of South Korea and Indonesia in November 2017. Multiple South Korean companies are expected to lead the design and construction phases of the project.

When it comes to project cost procurement, the South Korean government is making preparations via the Export-Import Bank of Korea and the Economic Development Cooperation Fund. The project is South Korea’s first water supply system export and similar projects are anticipated in the other Southeast Asian countries as well.
