Pandora TV will launch its own ultra HD broadcasting service late this month. The idea is to show off its advanced technology as a video platform representing Korea to increase its presence in the market.

In January last year, Pandora TV added the 4K UHD playback feature to its KM Player, providing UHD content about 11 months ahead of YouTube, so that its customers could enjoy UHD videos earlier than anybody in the world. This was the first case in which UHD broadcasting was introduced into a video platform.

To this end, Pandora TV concentrated its investment and research on the development of video compression and production technology. It is planning to proceed with such efforts for both PC and mobile users to enjoy ultra HD videos. By doing so, it is going to regain its popularity and better compete with YouTube.

“We are convinced that UHD broadcasting can be a specialty of Korea, which is excellent in IP-based Internet services,” said Pandora TV CEO Kim Kyong-ik, adding, “We will keep striving harder so we can take the initiative in this field.”
