Smartphones from Samsung Electronics

Samsung Electronics increased its share of the global smartphone industry profit to 32.6 percent in the third quarter of 2020, the highest in six years, narrowing its gap with Apple, according to Strategy Analytics (SA), a market research company.

Samsung’s highest profit share is 37.9 percent recorded in the second quarter of 2014. The company’s third-quarter share is much higher than the 13.8 percent in the second quarter of 2020 and 18.8 percent in the same period of 2019.

Apple remained in the top spot with a 66.9 percent share, but its share fell sharply from 79.0 percent in the second quarter of 2020.

Meanwhile, in terms of sales revenue, Apple accounted for 29.5 percent against Samsung’s 22.6 percent. The gap between the two narrowed compared to the second quarter of 2020 (35.0 percent versus 17.3 percent) and the third quarter of 2019 (33.8 percent versus 20.2 percent).

In terms of sales volume, Samsung Electronics (21.9 percent), Huawei (14.1 percent), Xiaomi (12.7 percent), and Apple (11.9 percent) stood as the world's top smartphone makers in the third quarter of 2020.
