The Only EV Battery Foil Plant in Europe

Officials of Doosan Solus’s battery foil plant in Hungary celebrate the first shipment of mass-produced battery foils.

Doosan Solus announced on Nov. 20 that its battery plant in Hungary successfully delivered the first batch of mass-produced electric vehicle (EV) battery foils on Nov. 19 (local time).

Doosan Solus started supplying tentatively produced samples in April and passed both quality evaluations and certification by global battery makers in seven months.

Doosan Solus is the only battery foil producer in Europe. Even before the completion of its first plant, the company signed long-term supply contracts with global battery manufacturers for about 80 percent of its annual production of 10,000 tons.

Hungary Plant 1 rolled out high-quality battery foils by utilizing the expertise and production know-how of Circuit Foil Luxembourg (CFL), a subsidiary of Doosan Solus that developed battery foil technology for the first time in the world.

Market research company SNE Research forecast that global battery foil demand will reach 510,000 tons in 2022, exceeding 500,000 tons in supply. In particular, as Europe is expected to face a severe shortage in battery foil supply due to an explosive growth of the EV market, Doosan Solus plans to build its second plant in Hungary with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons a year and further boost the plant’s annual production capacity to 75,000 tons by 2025.
