Future Growth Engines

Nongshim has decided to set up Strategic Planning Office, a new internal organization to explore the future growth engines and enhance the risk-taking ability. The Strategic Planning Office will directly report to CEO Kim Kyung-jo, a former Samsung Group executive, who has been brought in to lead this office as Vice President.

Kim joined Samsung after graduating from Korea University (mechanical engineering). Then he was promoted to the ranks of Executive Officer of Strategic Planning at Samsung Electronics and Senior Executive Officer at Samsung Corning Precision Materials.

Nongshim’s decision to establish the Strategic Planning Office is interpreted as a group-wide strategy in line with the “Spirit of Challenge” set forth by Chairman Shin Chun-ho as a management guideline.

Nongshim is promoting aggressive marketing campaigns with recently launched “Baekdu Mountain Water” in the bottled water market, “Ganglio” in the instant coffee mix market, and rice powder products for fried foods.

In the meantime, some industry sources say it seems an unusual decision to appoint an outsider Samsung man as the first leader of Strategic Planning Office because Nongshim has a long tradition of internal promotions.
