The labor union of Renault Samsung Motors has decided to go on strike. That of Hyundai Motor Company is likely to do so next month as well, about a difference of opinion on the scope of ordinary wages not narrowing at all between the management and itself. The GM Korea labor union is planning to hold a vote on a strike between July 8 and 9, too.

Also, the strike of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions is scheduled for July 22. If the unions in the auto industry join it, the labor-management conflicts in the sector are likely to be one of the worst ever this summer.

“Things are now very bad when it comes to our talks with the management, and we are planning to file for mediation with the National Labor Relations Commission late this month,” the union of Hyundai Motor Company explained. The labor union can get into a labor dispute if the union or the management refuses to the mediation plan proposed by the commission or the commission decides to discontinue the mediation due to coordination failures. The management recently said in response that it would not change its stance on the ordinary wage issue, even in the event of a strike.

Earlier than that, the labor union of Renault Samsung Motors voted for a strike with 90.7 percent of the current members in favor.
