In Partnership with Hyundai Robotics

KT officials introduce the “KT 5G Smart Factory Industrial Robot” at Hyundai Robotics Showroom located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province on Oct. 6.

KT announced on Oct. 6 that it has released a 5G-based smart factory industrial robot, which was jointly developed with Hyundai Robotics.

The robot combines KT’s corporate 5G services, cloud services and smart factory platform with Hyundai Robotics’ robot technology. Industrial robots perform high-speed, heavy-weight, and high-risk processes that are difficult for humans to perform. They are usually faster and can handle heavier loads than cooperative robots.

The new industrial robot has been upgraded by linking the main features of Hyundai Robotics' robot management system and production management system to the KT Smart Factory platform “Factory Makers.”

In addition, industrial robots require high-speed, ultra-low-latency 5G services to move around nimbly and handle large-volume production data. KT’s 5G services for corporate customers are fit for the role as they are highly secure and unaffected by commercial network traffic.

Meanwhile, KT joined hands with Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings and Cognex in May 2019 to enter the 5G smart factory market. Since then, the company has been continuously developing related products. To date, it has launched “KT 5G,” a 5G-dedicated network that guarantees high security and quality for enterprise customers; ''KT 5G Smart Factory Cobot,” a collaborative robot used for production process automation; “KT 5G Smart Factory Vision,” an AI-based image analysis machine vision solution; and the 5G-based smart factory industrial robot.

Earlier in June, KT forged a strategic partnership with Hyundai Robotics and made a strategic investment worth 50 billion won in its partner. Both companies will continue to focus on developing products for digital innovation and strengthen their smart factory business through AI/big data/cloud technology.
