Building Southeast Asia

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) acquired a US$700 million project for marine facilities in Malaysia. HHI announced it recently accepted a Letter of Award (LOA) on the first-term construction of gas central processing platform and production platform from Hess E&P Malaysia. The central processing platform HHI agreed to build has a total capacity of 33,000 tons, and it can disintegrate hydrocarbon extracted from gas production platforms into 430 million cubic feet (ft3) of gas and 15,000 barrels (bbl) of condensate, also known as second light oil.

The facility will be installed at the Bergading marine gas field, 150 km northeast of Kota Bharu, by late 2016.

HHI will be using the turnkey method for launching the project, undertaking every part of the construction including the design, purchase, manufacturing, installation, and pilot testing at once.

HHI has been recognized by major global oil companies for its superior construction capabilities in manufacturing and installing a number of fixed production platforms in the marine gas fields in the East Sea in 2004, Bongkot, Thailand in 2012, and SHWE, Myanmar in June 2013.

A source at HHI said, “Since last year, there was surge in the demand for natural gas in Malaysia, which already produces LNG,” and, “We expect to see more development of gas fields in Southeast Asia, so this project will be the starting point in acquiring more projects like this.”
