Export of Hospital System

A Korean hospital information system developed by a Korean hospital and a telecommunication company is being exported to the Middle East.

The consortium of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and SK Telecom announced on June 30 that they concluded the contract for hospital information system export and joint company establishment with Saudi Arabia MNG.

According to the contract, the consortium will build an information system worth 70 billion won (US$69.2 million) over 6 hospitals (3,000 bed of Saudi Arabia MNG for next two years.

A joint company with Saudi Arabia MNG will also be established to export hospital information system to other Middle Eastern countries. The consortium expects at least 300 billion won (US$296.4 million) in revenue for next five years.

This project is very important, as it is the very first case to export information systems consisting of key expertise of a major Korean hospital. The consortium will establish the medical information system including an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and created mobile-based infrastructure as well. This will be the foundation to export the system to other Middle Eastern countries.

The consortium said, “Starting from this Saudi Arabian deal, public and IT companies from Europe, Southeastern Asia and China are contacting us for future cooperation.”
