Company Reputation

For the first time, Samsung Electronics soared in the top ten of “The World’s Most Reputable Companies” selected by Forbes, the U.S. weekly economy magazine.

As observed in the 2014 version of this list released by Forbes and Reputation Institute (a consulting firm), Samsung Electronics scored 75.0, which qualified it for 10th place along with Microsoft.

The first on the list were both Walt Disney and Google scoring 77.3, while BMW with Rolex won joint third with 77.2. Next on the list iare Japan’s Sony (75.9) and Canon (75.7), fifth and sixth place respectively. Apple (75.6), Daimler (75.4), and Lego (75.1) span the difference.

The Reputation Institute came up with its “Reputation Score” by surveying 59,921 people in 15 countries including South Korea and the U.S. They asked the respondents if they were interested in purchasing the products, or working in these companies. This is the first time Samsung Electronics entered this top ten listing. But a steady rise can be observed as in 2008, Samsung Electronics ended up on 196th, 43rd in 2011, 21st in 2012, and 16th in 2013.

Meanwhile, the LG Group fell to 64th (68.8) this year. Although the LG Group’s score was ahead of Samsung Electronics at 163rd in 2008, it remained below the list as 65th in 2011, 56th in 2012, and 65th in 2013. Samsung Electronics and LG Group are the only domestic companies within the top 100.

Among the top ten, seven were ICT companies specializing in information and media, electronics and home appliances, and computers. Two companies produced consumer goods, and another two vehicles.
