Plant to Be Locked down for 9 Days

About 200 employees at LG Electronics' plant in Indonesia have been infected with COVID-19.

About 200 local employees at LG Electronics' plant in Indonesia have been infected with the new coronavirus, forcing the company to lock down the plant temporarily.

The infected employees work at LG Electronics' production corporation in Java, western Indonesia. LG Electronics decided to shut down its operations for nine days from Aug. 22 to 30.

With one-third of the 600 employees testing positive for the virus, LG Electronics disinfected all areas of the plant and conducted tests on all employees. The company is planning to have employees who tested negative report to work from next week and strengthen social distancing. No Korean employees have been infected, LG Electronics explained.

The plant in Indonesia, which was completed in 1995, produces TVs, monitors and signage devices. LG Electronics plans to relocate two of its six TV production lines in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, to the plant as early as 2020. By doing so, the company plans to foster Indonesia as a TV production base for the Asian market.

Indonesia reports about 2,000 new COVID-19 cases every day. On the day, 1,877 cases were reported, boosting the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 155,412. Seventy-nine new COVID-19 deaths were counted, resulting in a total of 6,759 deaths.
