Tired of choosing from an endless pool of items? Don’t know what to buy or what the best deal is? Then it’s time to trust the new e-commerce curators. Last year, GMarket came up with a new kind of shopping platform called G9, a new way of selling only the items that are specially selected by e-commerce curators. It has become a big hit as the number of people who shop by smartphones have soared. Whether it is the size of the screen or limited usage of data depending on the phone plan, smartphone users began to prefer items they see to be “curated”, or “pre-selected”, to save time and money.

GMarket began focusing more on mobile shopping when it began sales campaigns with eye-catching special shopping sections such as “Super Deals” and “Today Only.” As a result, GMarket’s sales from mobile shopping increased 27 percent in just first quarter of this year. It had only been 3 percent in 2012 and 16 percent in 2013, so it was a huge increase.

GMarket also launched its curation marketing platform called G9 last year. G9 can be used on both PCs and mobile devices, but it is more mobile-friendly than its predecessor GMarket. There are many reasons, and one of them is a push alarm that provides notifications of the items to be sold on that day to smartphone users so they don’t miss out on a deal.

With its straightforward interface, G9 makes mobile shopping so much easier. Only 12 items are displayed each day, so the selection is small, but the shoppers are guaranteed the best deal. And the items change day-by-day, so it gives the shoppers reasons to visit every day.

G9’s sales volume increased 174 percent in the first quarter of 2014 from its launch in the second quarter of 2013. Taking up 53 percent in market share, the sales from mobile surpassed sales from PC this year.

Now, GMarket is even redesigning its homepage and mobile app to attract more shoppers and provide a better shopping experience.
