Korea Power Exchange (KPX CEO, Yeom Myong-chun) hosted a seminar on Next-generation EMS Design Standardization at its Cheonan office for three days from September 5 to 7.

KPX held the seminar in order to define the standard design for the next-generation Energy Management System (EMS). KPX’s working group and developers from next-generation EMS developing companies, such as KDN, LSIS and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, had heated discussions regarding configuration management and the standardized development of application software. Through this seminar, KPX took its first successful step towards the standard development and quality enhancement for a next-generation EMS which will become the first Korean commercial EMS.

The seminar was held to finalize detailed design standards for KPX’s next-generation EMS. Some 40 working-level employees from KPX (the EMS ordering body), KDN, LSIS, the Korea Electro-technology Research Institute (the three EMS developing firms), and coding standard-related enterprises, had lively discussions regarding the design standardization for KPX’s next-generation EMS.

At its presentation, KPX introduced its vision for the next-generation EMS, the first Korean commercial EMS, and proposed requirements for the application software development process and configuration management. Following this, KDN and LSIS, the EMS developers, introduced their configuration management status and process. During the following presentation and discussion session, attendees had in-depth discussions about development methods and coding standards for the next-generation EMS. The three day seminar ended with a summary of design and development directions for the next-generation EMS. Most of the participants acknowledged the need for design standards, and the seminar provided opportunities to deepen their understanding on the issue by looking closely at each configuration management status. Many anticipated that the seminar would greatly benefit the design of future EMS.

Meanwhile, KPX laid the foundation for next-generation EMS design standards through the seminar and is looking forward to reducing the project period and securing high quality EMS.
