K-water will dispatch “The 2011 K-water Overseas Volunteer Corps" to Laos and build large water supply facilities in two villages there with medical services for free

The global water management corporation K-water (CEO Kim Kuen-ho) has been touching the hearts of global citizens with its overseas volunteer program “Drinking Water Development for Underdeveloped Neighbors.”

K-water announced that it will dispatch “The 2011 K-water Overseas Volunteer Corps” consisting of 60 members, including K-water staff, supporters from universities, and medical staff of the Korean Open Doctors Society to Laos three times this year and will build for free large water supply facilities in two villages (Tongnoi and Thongyai) in Paksan in Borikhamxay Province.

The Corps will install large water supply facilities, including water tanks capable of containing 50 tons of water, 6.4km-long pipe lines, two tube wells, and water purification facilities in the two villages where 1,300 residents suffer from the lack of drinking water, and it will also carry out volunteer activities to provide practical benefits to the residents as well as develop the region, such as repairing community halls, changing a main gate of the elementary school, and supporting poor families.

Given that the medical service in Laos is poor, the medical staff of the Korean Open Doctors Society will provide free medical service in 6 areas, including internal medicine.

“It is our duty to take the lead in addressing drinking water shortage problems in underdeveloped nations. I am happy thinking about providing clean and safe drinking water to Laotians who have suffered from the lack of clean water. We will continuously engage in volunteer activities to bring practical benefits to underdeveloped countries,” said Kim Keun-ho, CEO of K-water.

Since 2004, K-water has been carrying out overseas volunteer activities in underdeveloped nations suffering from the shortage of drinking water, such as Tadjikistan, East Timor, Cambodia, Mongolia, Vietnam, and the Philippines under the theme of “Creating a Happier World with K-water.”
