Participation in 'Technology Sharing'

Samsung Electronics president Kim Hyun-sik speaks at CES 2019 in Las Vegas on Jan. 7, 2019.

Samsung Electronics will transfer its patented technologies that remain unused to small and medium-sized companies free of charge. It is part of a sharing campaign aimed at opening unused technologies of large companies, state-run companies and public research institutes to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) announced on July 21 that Samsung Electronics will transfer its 135 technologies free of charge to 78 SMEs suffering from the COVID-19 crisis.

“Technology Sharing” is a project to support shared growth between large and small companies. A total of 529 companies participated in the campaign from 2013 to 2019, transferring 1,468 technologies. Samsung Electronics has been participating in it since 2015.

"The technologies that will be transferred this time include those related to artificial intelligence and smart devices. We expect that they will help SMEs develop convergence products or non-face-to-face services," a KIAT official said.
