With the UHD satellite broadcasting era already starting in Korea, Japan has sent signals about UHD satellite broadcasts as well. Competition between both countries for UHD broadcasting is expected to be intense.

According to sources in the broadcasting industry on June 3, Japan’s NexTV-F began to test UHD satellite broadcasts just three hours after KT SkyLife opened SkyUHD, the nation’s first UHD broadcasting channel, starting to pilot UHD satellite broadcasts on June 2. The Korean satellite broadcaster organized content, mainly with cultural programs and documentaries, and 4K programs will be broadcast at four-hour intervals per day.

Much attention is being paid to when each country will first provide UHD satellite broadcasting services.

Sharp is going to debut the Aquos TU-UD1000 on June 25, which is the industry’s first 4K TV recording and playback device. Sony has also decided to introduce a 4K receiver this fall. KT SkyLife, on the other hand, plans to release a UHD set-top box for home use in December.
