Officials celebrate the opening of the National Patent Big Data Center on June 18.

The Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy opened the National Patent Big Data Center in Seoul on June 18. The center will analyze more than 450 million international patents in order to present promising future technologies and strategies for growing them.

The center, which is beyond intellectual property trend reporting, is expected to result in niche patent research and comparative advantage. Until 2022, the center will closely monitor and find new possibilities from 17 new industries such as artificial intelligence and future mobility and 10 key industries such as shipbuilding and chemical.
