LG Uplus officials pose for a photo after signing an export contract with Chunghwa Telecom in Taipei, Taiwan, through a video conference.

LG Uplus announced on June 11 that it has signed a contract with Taiwan's largest telecommunication company, Chunghwa Telecom, to export 5G VR content.

Chunghwa Telecom is the fourth foreign telecom operator to import LG Uplus’s 5G content, with the other three bing China Telecom, Hong Kong Telecom, and KDDI in Japan. The amount of 5G content exports has reached US$10 million so far.

LG Uplus’ main export item is Uplus VR, which is a 5G platform that allows users to enjoy more than 1,500 VR items, including K-pop performances, games, cartoons, live sports, movies and travel, in 3D and 4K UHD picture quality. It will supply 180 K-pop-oriented VR videos and multi-views of Uplus VR to Chunghwa Telecom.

Taiwan launches commercial 5G services in July. Taiwan's three carriers — Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far EasTone (FET) — are fiercely competing to dominate the new market. Chunghwa Telecom is Taiwan's largest integrated telecommunication service provider that provides mobile, internet and other fixed-line services. It also provides information and communication services to corporate customers and cloud computing services.
