1,200 Employees Told to Work from Home

Samsung Electronics’ Suwon Campus

A COVID-19 case was confirmed in a research lab building of Samsung Electronics’ Suwon Campus. The company closed down the building and ordered the 1,200 employees of the research center to work from home.

The patient was a woman in her 50s who works for a company that cleans the Smart Manufacturing Building of the campus.

When the woman heard that her son had tested positive for the novel coronavirus on June 9, she informed Samsung Electronics of the fact. Samsung Electronics immediately shut down the two-story building where the woman has worked.

Samsung also ordered 1,200 people to work from home — 1,000 researchers working there and 200 who visited the research lab building. The first floor of the smart research center will be closed until June 10 and the second floor June 12.

"We have followed quarantine rules thoroughly. Everyone wears masks and practices social distancing at the company cafeteria," a Samsung Electronics official said. "We understand that the confirmed woman also wore a mask, and we responded as quickly as possible to prevent the virus from spreading."
