Samsung Medical Center (SMC) is currently considering moving Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee to normal hospital room after keeping the chairman in intensive care since May 10 due to a heart attack.

“Test results show that Chairman Lee is in stable condition, and he is recovering smoothly. We are considering transferring him to a hospital room soon,” said the medical team treating the Chairman on May 18.

The chairman suffered a heart attack on the night of May 10, received Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital Seoul, and was finally moved to SMC. He underwent a procedure at around 2 a.m. on May 11 to have a stent placed in an artery to widen it.

He also received a hypothermia treatment for about 60 hours after the surgery, and an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) apparatus was removed from him on the morning of May 12.

Since May 13, Chairman Lee has been treated with sedatives to receive a medical treatment during sleep. Given Lee’s age and his medical history, the medical team decided to keep him sedated for the time being so that his heart and brain can be in top condition, rather than rushing into making Lee become conscious.
