The First and Only Modular Architecture Contest in Korea

The Korean Iron and Steel Association (KOSA) is holding a steel modular architecture design contest for university students from June 1 to Nov. 5.

Modular architecture is a construction technique where most of the construction processes are completed at the factory and minimum work, such as assembling the pre-made parts, is performed on-site. The technique is currently getting the spotlight from construction organizations and companies.

KOSA announced that this contest aims to draw the attention of university students to steel modular architecture and foster future experts in modular architecture.

Steel modular architecture refers to modular-type architecture using steel products (section steel/ steel angle/lightweight studs) as the main structural material.

A total of 25 teams will be chosen through two rounds of evaluation. Among them, two teams will be awarded the first prize, three teams the second, five teams the third, and 15 teams the consolation prize.

The two winning teams will each receive 5 million won along with an award certificate issued by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The three runner-up teams will be rewarded 3 million won each with an award certificate from the presidents of KOSA’s Steel Construction Center, Architectural Institute of Korea, and Korean Society of Steel Construction.

Prospective applicants can apply through the official KOSA website from June 1 to 28. An award ceremony will be held on Nov. 5, along with the Second International Modular Forum at POSCO Center. An exhibition of the winning teams will also be displayed within the center.
