Images of LG Electronics’ ambitious work revealed by an overseas IT news site are receiving a lot of attention. The LG G3 was well received by foreign news sites, saying that it could be a match for Samsung’s Galaxy 5.

After the US-based IT news site Phone Arena unveiled never-before-seen pictures of the G3 in its article on May 14 (local time), much attention has been paid to LG’s new smartphone.

Previously, sample images were made public, but this is the first time for people to see clear pictures of the phone. What is noticeable is that the G3 maintains the back button design of its predecessor G2, but in a more simple and classic manner.

Korean netizens commented on the design by saying, “The G3 seems to have adopted the design of the Shine, which was the best design offered by LG.”

In the past, the second largest Android smartphone maker usually rolled out the G series around Sept. However, the release date for the new model is May 26 this time, and thus the G3 is going to go head-to-head with the Galaxy 5.

“The LG G3 could well be the phone that upsets the Galaxy S5 from the top of the sales charts,” said Forbes in an article posted on its website on May 13. The business magazine added, “LG is working on an exciting new design that might be made of metal and it, too, will have a fingerprint scanner. The best news, though, is that the phone is supposed to feature a quad-HD screen. If these features make it on to the new G3, then LG will have beaten Samsung at its own game, and it will have created the must-have Android device for 2014.”

In an online poll conducted by Phone Arena where people were asked to choose between the G3, the Galaxy S5 Prime, and the HTC One M8 Prime, 40.81 percent of voters selected LG’s new handset. The G3 was ahead of the HTC One M8 Prime (33 percent) and the Galaxy S5 Prime (25 percent).
