The Best-selling Smartphone in Q1 2020

Apple's iPhone 11 was the best-selling smartphone in the world in the first quarter of this year. iPhone 11 shipments were over five times more than those of Samsung Electronics' flagship phone Galaxy S20 Plus.

The iPhone 11 sold 19.5 million units in the first quarter of this year, ranking first in shipments, market research company Omdia said on May 27. Apple also topped the list with the iPhone XR in the first quarter of 2019.


The iPhone 11 gained popularity due to its improved camera and other functions, which were available at a price US$50 lower than the previous model iPhone XR.

In addition to the iPhone 11, Apple’s iPhone XR placed fifth with 4.7 million units, the iPhone 11 Pro Max came in 6th with (4.2 million units), and the iPhone 11 Pro ranked 8th with 3.8 million units.

Second place was taken by the Samsung Electronics Galaxy A51 with shipments of 6.8 million units. Other Samsung Electronics smartphones among the top 10 were the Galaxy A10s (7th, 3.9 million units), the Galaxy S20+ 5G (9th, 3.5 million units), and the Galaxy A30s (10th, 3.4 million units).

In addition, Xiaomi took the third and fourth spots with the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Other Chinese manufacturers except Xiaomi failed to make the top 10.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S20 series topped the list of the bestselling 5G smartphones. The top seller honor went to the Galaxy S20+ 5G, which was followed by the Huawei Mate 30 with 2.9 million units, the Mate 30 Pro (2.7 million units), the Galaxy S20 (2.4 million units), and the Galaxy S20 Ultra (2.3 million units).
