Propofol Injection Exports Likely to Surge This Year

Dongkuk Pharmaceutical announced on May 18 that it will export propofol injections to four major countries in Europe and Asia — the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Singapore, and Japan — as emergency supplies.

Propofol injections have a sedative effect on those suffering from the novel coronavirus. They are an essential medicine that reduces pain for severely ill patients with breathing difficulties. Demand for them is on the sharp rise amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dongkook Pharmaceutical exported propofol injections to the Netherlands and Luxembourg in April and will export them to Singapore in May and Japan in September.

“The Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Seoul urgently requested us to ship the injections to Luxembourg,” a company official said, adding that the company is in the middle of exporting them to other countries. “In 2020, our company’s exports of propofol injections are expected to surge compared to the previous year.”
