Expediting Development of Next-generation 5G Services

LG Uplus engineers test services on a 5G standalone network.

LG Uplus announced on May 5 that it has finished testing services on a commercial 5G standalone (SA) network. The mobile carrier is expected to expedite the development of next-generation 5G services such as smart factories.

The current 5G network is a non-standalone (NSA) 5G network which partially incorporates 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. A standalone 5G network can ensure the optimal quality for each service and minimize latency, making it possible to introduce next-generation 5G services such as smart factories and autonomous driving.

LG Uplus tested the interlocking of the base station equipment and the signal packet processing equipment of its 5G commercial network in Seoul.

In particular, it conducted tests on commercial networks for essential verification items such as subscriber authentication based on the 5G SA standard, data transmission, and base station equipment’s moves between regions.
