To Transport Export Cargoes

The Korean government has arranged emergency charter flights to Chongqing, China, and Jakarta, Indonesia, for companies in urgent need of cargo transportation.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea International Trade Association announced on April 28 that the special charter flights to Chongqing and Jakarta will take off at 8:35 a.m. and 10 p.m., respectively, at Incheon International Airport.

An Asiana Airlines plane will carry about 30 tons of semiconductors and related materials of 10 Korean from Incheon to Chongqing. In addition, a Korean Air charter plane will fly to Jakarta to transport about 16 tons of export cargoes, including air purifiers, textiles, protective clothing, and diagnostic kits, from eight export companies.

Earlier in March, the ministry surveyed air cargo demand of import and export companies in cooperation with the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and KOTRA. It has chosen Jakarta and Chongqing as the key destinations for special charter flight services.

The Korea International Trade Association set the special charter fee at 75 percent of the current fare to ease burdens on import and export companies. The differences will be covered by the trade association's trade promotion funds.
