Two Sides Agree to Exchange Patent Data

The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) introduced Korea’s quarantine model and products to the Intellectual Property Office of Saudi Arabia in a video conference held on April 22.

KIPO Commissioner Park Won-joo also signed an MOU with Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailem, CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SIAP), on exchanges of intellectual property rights data.

During the online meeting, Park introduced Korea’s quarantine technologies, including the walk-through diagnostic system, and KIPO’s “COVID-19 patent information navigation,” an analysis of patent information related to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Korea's patent information navigation can be used as a valuable resource for the Saudi Arabian government in fighting the spread of the COVID-19 virus," Al-Suwailem said.

Meanwhile, the MOU signed between the countries is expected to improve Saudi patent officials’ access to Korea's IP information in the future. The data exchange is open to the private sector as well as the public sector, so domestic companies planning to enter Saudi Arabia will benefit from it.
