Strengthening Presence in Singapore Construction Market

GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) has won Singapore's Integrated Train Testing Center project in collaboration with the Korea Railroad Research Institute.

GS E&C will construct a general railway test center that can test vehicles, signals, communications, and railway supplies. The 550-billion-won project will be completed at the end of 2024.

There are only six general railway test centers in the world. This means that they are very advanced and complex facilities and are difficult to build. On the part of Singapore, it was absolutely important to select a highly reliable company that can build the center on time. So bidding rights were given to two consortiums — one was Korean and the other Australian.

The Korean consortium’s bidding price was higher than that of the competitor, but it nevertheless clinched the order thanks to its creative design, engineering prowess, and especially, its experience in building the Osong Railway Test Line, the first railway test line in Korea.

Meanwhile, GS E&C further strengthened its partnership with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore by winning the order. Including this order, the Korean contractor has signed nine projects worth a total of 4.3 trillion won with the LTA. A building-type vehicle base project that GS E&C won in 2016 is currently the largest of its kind in the world and the largest project ever in terms of construction costs among projects ordered by the LTA in Singapore as it will cost approximately two trillion won.
