With Japanese and Taiwanese Partners

LG Uplus announced on April 12 that it has signed an MOU with KDDI, Japan's leading telecommunications company, and CIRC, a Taiwanese drone manufacturer, to expand the smart drone business.

A smart drone platform relays photos and videos taken from a camera on a drone to terminals and control centers such as smartphones through LTE and 5G communications. It can generally manage drones’ conditions, flight plans, flight paths and mission implementation.

CIRC has commercialized 6-kg to 8-kg lightweight drones and drone stations. The drone station manufactured by CIRC is a device that can automatically recharge a drone's battery at a desired point.

The drone station expands drone applications and lowers the cost of introducing drones by realizing economical long flights with lightweight models.

The three companies plan to explore various business opportunities with demonstrations from in 2021 by completing linkage among drones, stations and smart drone platforms by the end of 2020. In particular, the use of drones is expected to fuel disaster control services for the management of facilities to promptly check various business sites including large industrial complexes in the event of various disasters such as large fires and earthquakes.
