Foreigners Purchasing Korean Daily Necessities

The number of foreigners purchasing daily necessities manufactured by South Korean companies is increasing at a rapid pace. With the demand for daily necessities on the rise across the world due to the spread of COVID-19, the exports of their tissue, hand sanitizer and instant noodle products and the like are expected to increase a lot based on the large inventory and high quality of those products.

According to Gmarket Global Shop of eBay Korea, the number of such consumers increased a lot last month with foreign customers’ focus on South Korean products shifting from cosmetics and clothes to dry and wet tissues, oral healthcare products, etc.

In that shop, the sales of dry and wet tissues purchased by foreigners jumped 40 percent month on month in March this year. The online shopping mall explained that this is because those products supplied by South Korean companies are softer, more dust-free and better for the skin.

When it comes to oral healthcare products, the sales increased 34 percent from a month earlier. The sales of hand sanitizers rose more than 4 percent in spite of the South Korean government’s substantial export restrictions implemented in late February. In addition, Nongshim’s and Samyang Food’s instant noodle exports increased over 40 percent year on year in the first quarter of this year.
