Foreign Investors Continue to Dump Stocks

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 5.34 percent to close at 1,482.46 points on March 23. The index started at 1,474.45 points, down 5.86 percent from the previous trading day, and topped 1,500 points during the trading session but fell below that level again.

Foreign investors’ net selling totaled 642.2 billion won and that of institutional investors added up to 362 billion won. The former’s net selling continued for the 13th consecutive trading day. On the other hand, individual investors’ net purchase totaled 921 billion won.

Most companies’ stock prices fell. For example, Samsung Electronics lost 6.39 percent and SK Hynix lost 7.22 percent. In contrast, Celltrion gained 14.75 percent.

The KOSDAQ index dropped 5.13 percent to close at 443.76 points. Foreign and institutional investors net-sold shares worth 129.7 billion won and 95.6 billion won, respectively. Individual investors bought those worth 211.4 billion won in total.
