Applicants to Be Paid 70% of Average Wages

Lotte Hotel will implement a paid leave system for its employees to cope with the sales doldrums due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

While the Korean hotel industry is struggling with the spread of the novel coronavirus, Lotte Hotel, the nation's largest hotel chain, will implement a paid leave system.

Lotte Hotel will operate a one-month paid leave system for officials who work in Korea starting next month. Applicants will receive 70 percent of their average wages during the leave. Lotte Hotel will decide to continue the paid leave system after running it temporarily.

In general, regular wages are paid during leaves of absence, but Lotte Hotel will pay average wages, which include bonuses and allowances as well as regular wages, to the applicants to prevent a sudden drop in their income.

Earlier Lotte Hotel executives decided last month to return 10 percent of their salaries for three months. Lotte Hotel recommended week-long unpaid leaves between March and April for employees as difficulties mounted with the spread of COVID-19.
