Samsung Posts the Highest Growth Rate

Apple's AirPods Pro

Apple ranked first in the global wearable device market last year with a 31.7 percent share. Samsung Electronics came in third, but showed the highest growth rate.

Apple shipped 165 million wearable devices last year, up 121.7 percent from the previous year, market research firm IDC said on March 12. The growth was led by the AirPods Pro with a noise-canceling feature, which was launched last year.

Following Apple, Xiaomi took second place with a 12.4 percent share. The driving force behind Xiaomi's growth was a low-priced smart band. The proportion of smart bands in Xiaomi's total wearable shipments was estimated at 73.3 percent.

Samsung Electronics shipped 30.90 million units, representing 9.2 percent of the wearable device market. However, its growth rate was the highest as it reached 153.3 percent in one year.

In addition, Huawei and Fitbit picked up 4th and 5th place with a market share of 8.3 percent and 4.7 percent, respectively.
