Samsung 5G Phones Sweep U.S. Market

Seven out of 10 5G smartphones sold in the United States last year were Samsung Galaxy phones.

In 2019, seven out of 10 5G smartphones sold in the United States were Samsung Galaxy models.

Samsung Electronics held a 74 percent share in the U.S. 5G smartphone market last year, market research firm Counterpoint Research said on March 3. The best-selling 5G smartphone model was the Galaxy Note 10 Plus.

Following Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and OnePlus posted 15 percent and 11 percent shares, respectively. The V50 ThinQ of LG Electronics was launched early in the 5G market but recorded poor sales due to weak promotions, Counterpoint Research said.

5G phones accounted for only 1 percent of the overall U.S. smartphone market. However, the proportion of 5G phones is expected to reach 25 percent this year as 5G services are likely to be expanded.

In particular, if Apple releases a 5G iPhone this year, the share of 5G phones is expected to shoot up.
