Ready to Expand Wafer Business

SK Siltron has wrapped up the acquisition of DuPont's silicon carbide wafer (SiC wafer) division.

SK Siltron announced on March 2 that it completed the acquisition of DuPont's silicon carbide wafer (SiC wafer) division on Feb. 29. The company's board of directors decided in September 2019 to take over the DuPont division for US$450 million.

Demand for power semiconductors is increasing due to the recent growth of the electric vehicle market and the diffusion of 5G services, the company explains. SiC wafers are used for power semiconductors as they are characterized by high hardness, high withstand voltage and high heat resistance. Demabnd for SiC wafers is expected to record double-digit growth each year.

SK Siltron plans to maximize synergies between DuPont’s R&D and production capabilities and its main businesses through this acquisition.
