Samsung Electronics announced on Feb. 23 that it has signed a 5G and 4G equipment supply deal with U.S. Cellular, which ranks fourth in the U.S. mobile communications market.
This marks the first time Samsung provides mobile communications equipment to U.S. Cellular, which provides mobile services to subscribers across the United States.
Samsung Electronics will offer a variety of 5G solutions based on the 3GPP International Standard including integrated 5G access units. In particular, its integrated 5G base station is a product that integrates wireless and digital communication functions. It can reduce the time and cost for building a 5G network as it can be easily installed on street lamps and building walls and lower the cost of laying optical cables.
In addition, it is loaded with a 5G modem chip developed by Samsung Electronics. The chip supports communications up to 10 Gbps while reducing power consumption.
Samsung Electronics continues to expand its presence in the U.S., the world's largest mobile market, by signing 5G and 4G supply contracts with four carriers which together serve about 80 percent of all U.S. mobile subscribers.
