Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) was selected as the final supplier in a bid for the international open competition for a feasibility study on a nuclear waste storage of Cernaboda Nuclear Power Plant of the Romanian Nuclear Power Corporation or Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica (SNN) on Feb. 18.

This order taking is an example of successful overseas expansion through KHNP and KEPCO E&C’s pure Korean technology and experience and know-how in the construction and operation of nuclear waste management facilities.

This service will suggest the best way to build a waste storage facility on the site of Chernaboda Nuclear Power Plant. Based on the results of the service, the orderer will set conditions for the construction of the waste storage facility and place an order for the construction project in 2021. Through this project, KHNP secured an advantageous position in landing the order.

The winning of this project following the supply of nuclear instrumentation equipment for nuclear reactors is attributable to KHNP’s active order-taking activities such as KHNP president Jung Jae-hoon's visit to Romania in 2019.

Meanwhile, Chernaboda Nuclear Power Plant is running in eastern Romania and is a CANDU-type nuclear power plant like Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant in Korea.
