Amid Rising U.S.-Iran Tensions

Korea Gas Corp. announced on Jan. 9 that it issued a security warning at 6:00 p.m., Jan. 8 at its places of business in the Middle East with regard to the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Specifically, the corporation issued the warning in Iraq, Oman and Qatar through an emergency assessment process and put a monitoring team into operation at its headquarters. In the morning of Jan. 9, Korea Gas Corporation president Chae Hee-bong presided over an emergency meeting and organized an emergency response team consisting of 12 departments.

“The Middle East accounts for 40 percent of South Korea’s natural gas imports and we have closely monitored situations in the region,” the corporation explained, adding, “We will continue to maintain the stability of natural gas supply by keeping working closely with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the industry.”
