KT announced on Jan. 9 that it will apply artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the optimization and control of 5G communication networks and enhance 5G service quality.
KT said it can provide optimal 5G services faster and more accurately by developing 5G icons through application of AI technology to the optimization of 5G base stations and automatically optimizing base stations based on big data.
The optimization of base stations through 5G icons consists of a real-time automatic adjustment process based on learning data and producing optimal results through the process.
The AI-powered new technology studies the coverage of a base station, environmental data such as the quality of radio frequencies and the height of buildings and antenna inclination and height and data among others and creates an optimal base station setting model. By applying extracted setting values remotely and automatically fine-tuning adjustments based on real-time results, optimal results can be automatically derived within about two minutes.
KT expects that the technology will enable the company to carry out fast and efficient quality optimization even in the event of unexpected environmental changes and events as the company can remotely apply the technology to the process and confirm results without sending engineers to the field.
