Kim Hee-jin, CEO of uLikeKorea, a smart livestock healthcare management company, announced on Dec. 30 that the company has successfully developed a health monitoring system for horses.

Kim further said that her company will introduce the new product in the second half of 2020 in Japan and Europe.

There are 60 million horses worldwide and the global horse health management market is estimated at US$300 billion.

uLikeKorea has initially developed the LiveCare system for cows. It recently announced that it has successfully developed a health monitoring system for sheep and calves through an additional three years of research and development (R&D). And most recently, it announced the world’s first patch-type horse health monitoring system.

Kim said that this was possible due to the initial development of the LiveCare system, which served as a foundation for other systems. In addition, uLikeKorea invested heavily into R&D and Kim said that she was happy to see the investment and efforts coming into fruition.

According to U.N.’s FAO, there are over 60 million horses worldwide and the combined value of key markets such as the United States, Mexico, China, Brazil and Mongolia, is estimated to be over US$300 billion.

Within this market, uLikeKorea’s goal is to become the leader in the premium horse market worth over US$150 billion and will introduce the product and services through its European office.

CEO Kim stated that horses and people have a special relationship, but it is difficult to assess the animal’s health. Kim further stated that she would like to contribute to the horse health management market by offering services that can help the premium market.

Kim also said, “We aim to become a global livestock health management company regardless of the type of the livestock. Our globalization effort will continue based on solid ICT and will continue to diversify our services.”

Currently, uLikeKorea has completed the opening of the Denmark office in Copenhagen and plans to expand into other key markets in 2020.

In terms of big data, uLikeKorea is one of the few companies in the world that has over 500 million data points in the field of livestock health data and is currently working with SoftBank to jointly develop a product aimed for the Australian market.

Kim also said, “A horse is not a ruminant, different with cow, so uLikeKorea developed a patch-type healthcare product for horses.” The patch-type device for horses, developed for the first time in the world, predicts disease and monitors activity level. It is an innovative technology that can check the condition of horses in real-time and will be exported to the Japanese market soon.

uLikeKorea is also the only startup company in Korea to be selected by Microsoft as a disruptor company in the field of Agritech and has participated in MS IoT in Action conference program in New Zealand and will continue to participate in Japan (Tokyo), Korea (Seoul, Busan), Australia (Melbourne) in 2020 as a key participant in the program.
