Growing Faster than Initially Estimated

The number of 5G users is forecast to reach 2.6 billion in 2025, accounting for 29 percent of the total number of mobile users.

Ericsson LG said on Dec. 19 that the number of 5G users would reach 2.6 billion in 2025 to become equivalent to 29 percent of the total number of mobile users.

According to its report, the number of 5G users is likely to increase much faster than that of LTE users. North America is expected to show the fastest growth and 5G users are predicted to account for 74 percent of mobile users at the end of 2025 there. The estimated ratio is 56 percent for Northeast Asia and 55 percent for Europe. The number of 5G users is estimated to total 13 million at the end of this year. The number of South Korean 5G users is approximately five million at present.

China, which started late in the LTE market, is moving nimbly in the 5G market and this is expected to result in a faster increase in the number of 5G users. “Previously, the number of 5G users as of 2024 was estimated at 1.9 billion, but the number is likely to amount to 2.6 billion based on an increase in the number of 5G service providers and a rapid increase in the number of 5G devices,” said Ericsson LG senior consultant Park Byeong-sung.
