With two months left for Samsung Electronics' 2020 Galaxy Unpacked event, smartphone industry insiders predict that the Galaxy S11 series is likely to feature an ultra-high definition camera with more than 100 million pixels and a large-capacity 5,000 mAh battery. They also say that Samsung may unveil a clamshell-type foldable phone that is folded up and down together with the Galaxy S11.

Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy S11 series in San Francisco, the United States on Feb. 18, 2020. Its Korean launch is expected to take place in March 2020.

The Galaxy S11 series, like its predecessor, the Galaxy S10 series, will consist of three models, the budget model Galaxy S11e, the Galaxy S11 and the Galaxy S11 Plus. Their screen sizes will also be divided into 6.3-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.9-inch. All will have Infiniti-O displays which fill the entire front except a camera hole at the top.

The most anticipated part is their cameras. The Galaxy S11 and S11 Plus models are expected to feature five camera lenses (main, ultra-wide, telephoto, depth, and close-up lenses) on the back, including a 108-million-pixel main camera. Samsung Electronics has already supplied 108 million pixel image sensors to Xiaomi of China for its CC9 Pro model.

The new models may also feature 5x optical zoom. Up to now, flagship phones were capable of a 2x optical zoom only due to their lens structures. The Korean smartphone giant has registered trademark "Space Zoom" with the European Patent Office for its 5x optical zoom camera.

Meanwhile, the 2020 Galaxy Unpacked event is expected to present not only the Galaxy S11 but also Samsung's second foldable phone. In October, Samsung Electronics unveiled the second foldable phone at the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) 2019 in Silicon Valley, the United States. The clamshell-type phone that folds up and down was developed with a focus on portability can it can fit into your pocket. Its price is also expected to be significantly lower than that of the Galaxy Fold which is 2,398,000 won as it will be in the mid- to low-price range.

In addition to selling about half one million Galaxy Folds this year, the first year of foldable phones, Samsung Electronics plans to boost foldable phone shipments to millions of units in 2020.
